Good Greek Honors Friend John Katsimatides
Good Greek September 11 remembrance honors John A. Katsimatides, a childhood friend of founder Spero Georgedakis.

Good Greek Moving & Storage will mark the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks by honoring John A. Katsimatides, a childhood friend and schoolmate of Founder and CEO Spero Georgedakis. Katsimatides was 31 when he was killed while working for Cantor Fitzgerald in the North Tower of the World Trade Center. Georgedakis and Katsimatides attended school together from kindergarten through 12th grade. The company will share Katsimatides’ story as part of its remembrance of those killed on September 11, 2001.
A Lifelong Friendship
Katsimatides and Georgedakis grew up as neighborhood friends before their careers took different directions. Katsimatides lived in East Marion, New York, and worked as a bond broker for Cantor Fitzgerald on the 104th floor of the North Tower.
Cantor Fitzgerald, whose offices occupied floors 101 through 105, lost 658 employees in the attacks, more than any other single company.
Spero Georgedakis, Founder and CEO at Good Greek Moving & Storage, said:
“John was one of us. The best. We grew up together. We went through school together from kindergarten through high school, and those memories stay with you for life. When I think about September 11, I think about our country and everyone we lost, but I also think about John, my friend.”
Remembering Individual Lives
Friends and family remembered Katsimatides as charismatic, generous and larger than life, with devotion to his family, friends and Greek Orthodox faith. His name is inscribed on Panel N-39 of the North Pool at the National September 11 Memorial in New York City.
The National September 11 Memorial & Museum estimates that about 100 million Americans alive today are too young to personally remember the attacks. As of August 31, 2026, the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund reported 9,780 deceased claims for victims who died from eligible 9/11-related physical health conditions.
Spero Georgedakis, Founder and CEO at Good Greek Moving & Storage, said:
“Twenty-five years later, I want people to know John’s name and know that he was more than a name on a memorial. He was our friend. He was loved. He had an entire life ahead of him. Every person we lost that day had a story, a family and people who still carry their memory. That is what ‘Never Forget’ means to me.”
Company Commemoration
Families will gather at the National September 11 Memorial on September 11 to read aloud the names of those killed. Katsimatides’ name will be among them.
Good Greek will use the anniversary to honor Katsimatides and recognize the lives lost in the attacks.
Spero Georgedakis, Founder and CEO at Good Greek Moving & Storage, said:
“For me, this anniversary is about making sure John and everyone we lost are remembered for who they were, not simply for how they died. Twenty-five years later, I still remember my friend. We always will.”
