Privacy policy
You can read every story on Practical Commerce Chamber without signing up or handing over a single detail. Here is the short list of what we do handle, and how you stay in control of it.
Who is responsible
The editor, Tobias Hutchins, runs Practical Commerce Chamber and decides what happens to the personal information described here. Any question about this policy goes to editor@pcchamber.org. There is no street address for mail; email reaches us fastest and is the only route we offer.
The information, and what it is for
- Analytics, with your permission. Press Accept on the cookie banner and Google Analytics starts recording page views, the type of device and browser, an approximate location and the link that brought you here. We read the totals to learn which stories owners and managers find useful. Press Reject, or ignore the banner, and the analytics script never loads.
- Email you send the editor. A note with company news, a correction or a question arrives with your name and email address. We hold on to it so we can answer you and act on what you sent.
Nothing else is collected. You will find no log-ins, no comment sections and no ad networks on these pages, and reader details are never sold, rented or traded.
Our lawful basis
Analytics runs on your consent. You can withdraw it whenever you like from the cookie policy page. Email is handled under our legitimate interest in replying to people who get in touch with the editor.
Retention
Google Analytics deletes its event data after 2 months. Correspondence stays for no more than two years from the most recent message and is then erased, except where a correction or a story it relates to is still being dealt with. Request logs at our host are short-lived.
Processors we use
- Google Analytics, run by Google, counts visits once you have agreed to it.
- Vercel hosts the site. Every web host keeps technical logs of incoming requests, including the IP address and the page requested, for a short time so the service runs safely.
- Google Workspace holds the editor's mailbox, which was arranged for us through Zapmail.
Some of this processing by Google and Vercel takes place in the United States, protected by transfer safeguards that UK data protection law recognizes. Typing into the search box at the top of the page sends your words to Google Search, where Google's privacy policy applies.
Your rights
You are entitled to a copy of what we hold on you, and to have it fixed if it is wrong or erased if you want it gone. You can also restrict or object to our use of it, ask for it in a portable form, and withdraw consent at any point. Email editor@pcchamber.org with your request; you will hear back within one month.
Not satisfied with our answer? The UK Information Commissioner's Office takes complaints at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint and by phone on 0303 123 1113. Please give us a chance to sort it out with you first.
Updates to this policy
