Hammes celebrated the October 22 ribbon-cutting of the Moffitt Discovery and Innovation Center at Speros in Land O’ Lakes, Florida. The national real estate firm served as project manager for the 250,000-square-foot research facility, which expands Moffitt Cancer Center’s capabilities at its research and life sciences campus. The center is expected to house 20 faculty laboratories and about 250 research personnel by the end of 2026. Its laboratory, technology and collaboration spaces are designed to support work across several cancer research fields.

Research Facility Coordination

The center includes flexible laboratory environments, shared technology and equipment spaces, and collaborative areas. Specialized capabilities support tumor biology, drug discovery, chemistry, bioengineering and cancer metabolism.

Wade Milligan, Regional Vice President at Hammes Healthcare, said:

“This research project required a level of coordination beyond a traditional medical facility. We had a tremendous team in place and are grateful to Moffitt Cancer Center for their partnership and to our project partners for their role in successfully bringing this project to completion on time and within budget.”

Speros Campus Facilities

The Discovery and Innovation Center is near the 120,000-square-foot Moffitt at Speros Outpatient Center, which includes the Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation Proton Center. Hammes also provided project management services for those facilities, which opened earlier this year.

Expanded Research Capacity

The new center brings laboratory and shared research resources together at Speros, creating space for faculty laboratories and research personnel as Moffitt Cancer Center expands its cancer research work.
