Veteran Ventures Capital has led a $2.5 million seed financing for Radian Forge, a Portsmouth, Virginia, manufacturer producing metal components for U.S. naval, maritime and defense applications. The round, made through VVC’s Fund II, also includes the Virginia Innovation Partnership Corporation and existing investors. Radian Forge plans to use the investment to expand advanced manufacturing capacity for the maritime industrial base. Its large-format additive manufacturing process can reduce production lead times by 40% to 80%, according to the company.

Scaling Metal Component Production

Radian Forge operates near naval shipbuilding and repair facilities in Portsmouth. It uses large-format Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing, or WAAM, to produce large, complex, precision-grade metal components. The process produces components with material properties between castings and forgings, while allowing each WAAM robot to operate with a single operator.

The financing comes as the United States works to expand shipbuilding and repair capacity, strengthen domestic supply chains and address production constraints across the maritime industrial base.

Joshua Weed, General Partner at Veteran Ventures Capital, said:

“The United States cannot sustain naval power or rebuild its fleets without a responsive manufacturing base capable of producing critical components at the speed of the mission. Radian Forge is building the domestic manufacturing capacity needed to help close that gap.”

Portsmouth Expansion Plans

Weed led the investment and will join Radian Forge’s Board of Directors. In February 2026, Governor Abigail Spanberger announced that Radian Forge would invest $10.5 million to expand its Portsmouth operations, creating 53 new jobs. The Commonwealth approved a $265,000 Opportunity Fund grant for the expansion.

The latest direct equity investment by the Virginia Innovation Partnership Corporation adds to the Commonwealth’s stated commitment to the manufacturer’s expansion.

Jeff Yeager, CEO of Radian Forge, said:

“America has spent decades accepting manufacturing timelines that no longer match the urgency of the mission. We don't accept them. Radian Forge is building the capacity to put critical components into the hands of our customers in weeks, not months. This investment allows us to move faster and scale that capability. Veteran Ventures understands that this isn't just a manufacturing problem—it's a readiness problem—and that's exactly the kind of partner we want beside us.”

What The Funding Supports

The seed financing gives Radian Forge capital to increase production capacity for large-scale metal components used in naval, maritime and defense applications. For suppliers and manufacturers serving those customers, the company’s planned expansion adds domestic capacity from its Portsmouth base.
