Blackford Capital has acquired Norfolk, Virginia-based E.G. Middleton, Inc., extending its Habco Partnership MEP services platform into Virginia. E.G. Middleton is a third-generation, family-owned electrical contractor serving government, industrial, transportation and commercial customers across the Mid-Atlantic. Founded in 1920, the company employs approximately 120 skilled workers, including more than 100 electricians. The acquisition adds electrical contracting capabilities and customer relationships with the U.S. Navy, Dominion Energy and Newport News Shipbuilding.

Electrical Contracting Capabilities

E.G. Middleton designs, installs and maintains electrical systems for large-scale infrastructure and institutional projects. Its work includes high-voltage power distribution, substations, building wiring, site lighting and specialized control systems.

The company also brings experience in mission-critical environments, including shipyards, piers and dry docks, to Habco’s mechanical, electrical and plumbing platform. The combination creates opportunities for the companies to pursue larger projects, expand capacity and cross-sell services across their respective customer bases.

Jeff Johnson, managing director at Blackford Capital, said:

“The best add-on acquisitions offer more than scale—they make the platform strategically stronger and more capable. E.G. Middleton brings Habco deep technical expertise, a strong Mid-Atlantic presence and customer relationships built over generations, all of which create new avenues for durable growth across the combined business.”

Management Team Remains

Rudy Middleton and E.G. Middleton’s existing management team will remain with the company following the acquisition. The contractor serves federal, state, local and commercial customers in the Mid-Atlantic, with work in industrial and heavy electrical construction, utility distribution, military installations, ship repair infrastructure and transportation.

E.G. Middleton III (Rudy), president and CEO of E.G. Middleton, said:

“E.G. Middleton has grown by doing demanding work well and earning the trust of our customers. Partnering with Habco and Blackford gives our team additional resources and reach to build on that foundation while preserving the values and operating culture that have served us well. I'm energized by what we can accomplish together.”

Building the Habco Platform

The acquisition establishes a Virginia presence for Habco while adding E.G. Middleton’s technical capabilities and long-standing customer relationships. Blackford’s platform now includes the Norfolk contractor’s Mid-Atlantic operations.

Andrew Habel, CEO of Habco, said:

“Rudy and his family have built E.G. Middleton into a highly respected business with a history that spans more than a century. We are grateful for the trust he has placed in Habco to help carry that legacy forward.”
