New York Butcher Shoppe Wins Retail Rising Star
New York Butcher Shoppe wins the 2026 Retail Rising Star award from Certified Angus Beef® as it expands its franchise footprint.

New York Butcher Shoppe has received the 2026 Retail Rising Star award from the Certified Angus Beef® brand. The award was presented Sept. 11 at the brand’s Annual Conference in Marco Island, Florida. The retailer operates 43 locations in 10 states and expects to surpass 50 locations by the end of 2027. Its partnership with the brand began in 2003 and passed 1 million pounds of Certified Angus Beef® products purchased in December 2024.
Recognition for Retail Programs
The award recognizes retailers for promotions, value-added products, team education, and correct trademark use. New York Butcher Shoppe joined Schnuck Markets and ShopRite among this year’s retail honorees. The company was also named Specialty Store Marketer of the Year in 2021.
Each store uses custom signage to identify a local ranch partner, connecting customers with the family farms and ranches that supply its beef.
Jim Tindal, CEO at New York Butcher Shoppe, said:
“Our customers want to know where their food comes from, and we're proud to tell them. Every steak we sell starts with a family rancher who takes pride in doing things the right way. That's the same care our butchers bring to every cut, and it's a big part of why this partnership has lasted more than 20 years.”
Training and Customer Marketing
New owners and general managers train at the brand’s Culinary Center in Wooster, Ohio, and complete the company’s branded beef program. The retailer also uses digital campaigns, rancher storytelling, Wine Bar menu features, and grand opening promotions. It was the brand’s No. 1 seller of meat thermometers last year, selling more than 1,500.
David O’Daim, Vice President of Retail at Certified Angus Beef®, said:
“New York Butcher Shoppe is investing in its people and finding creative ways to bring the brand to life for customers in every new community it enters. Their growth, enthusiasm, and commitment to sharing the Certified Angus Beef story make them a standout partner and a very deserving winner.”
Franchise Growth Plans
For prospective franchisees, the partnership provides a product that meets 10 quality standards, with about 4 in 10 Angus cattle qualifying. The Traditional Prototype has an estimated all-in startup cost of $478,000 to $613,000 and an average footprint of 1,400 to 1,800 square feet. The Wine Bar Prototype ranges from $672,000 to $832,000 and typically occupies 2,500 to 3,000 square feet.
Recent development agreements will bring the brand to Metro Atlanta, Alabama, Missouri, Virginia, and Maryland. Growth is supported by an investment partnership with The Foundry Group.
A Longstanding Product Partnership
The Retail Rising Star award recognizes a relationship that combines product sourcing, employee training, customer-facing rancher information, and franchise development support. For operators, the model links a premium beef offering with marketing and training programs designed for new markets.
